Following the unrest stemming from the death of George Floyd gives cause to recall the source of racism. According to the bishops’ document, Open Wide Our Hearts “Racism arises when—either consciously or unconsciously—a person holds that his or her own race or ethnicity is superior, and therefore judges persons of other races or ethnicities as inferior and unworthy of equal regard.” This unrest reminds us that racism is not a thing of the past. Rather, it is a reality and we are called to confront it.
This moment calls us to examine our attitudes and actions. Do we truly see others as our brothers and sisters in Christ? This may be an opportunity for those with human resources responsibilities to review policies and hiring processes—how we treat current and potential employees.

Dear NACPA Members,
Warm congratulations to all NACPA members as we mark International Human Resources Day. The theme is “HR connecting people and organizations.”
I am pleased to announce a major revision of the association’s popular publication: Just Treatment for Those Who Work for the Church.
First published 33 years ago, this 2019 edition is a vital resource to help all Church employers better understand the Gospel message and moral principles that guide all our employment decisions.
On September 24th, the DOL released the final rule regarding the overtime regulations of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The final rule updates the earnings thresholds necessary to exempt, executive, administrative and professional employees from the FLSA’s minimum wage and overtime pay requirements.

NACPA joins individuals and organizations in the U.S. and worldwide in reaching out with compassion and prayers for the victims and the families and friends of those lost and wounded in Texas and Ohio August 3 and 4.
Bishop Michael Burbidge, Bishop of the Diocese of Arlington, Virginia where NACPA is based, tweeted this: “Tragically, horrific shootings and violence continue in this country. May we be united in our prayers for all victims and their families.”
