EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE APPRAISALS: Designing an Instrument
and a Process
Performance appraisal for those who serve the Church is integral
to a comprehensive personnel system. It should be a process
which involves people, creates an atmosphere of mutual respect
and trust between managers and their staffs and leads to growth
and development of those who minister. This workshop will
identify the underlying philosophy of the review process;
examine a variety of instruments which can be used and review
the procedure with a step-by-step approach. Participants will
have time to ask individual questions and practice necessary
skills. Sample performance appraisal instruments are available
in written form and on computer diskette.

a comprehensive priest evaluation process that includes feedback
from staff and parishioners. Forms and steps for an effective
process as well as time for practice are included.
SKILLFULLY SUPERVISING IN MINISTRY
This workshop is designed to assist administrators and department
directors who wish to implement effective supervisory practices
grounded in Catholic social teachings. The goal is to develop
an understanding and appreciation of a process where both
parties learn and grow in their personal and professional
relationships. Material presented will be within the context
of the mission and goals of the institution and principles
of sound human resource management.
EFFICIENT MANAGEMENT FOR REORGANIZATION
Personnel/human resource planning during an organizational
restructuring can be a way to demonstrate the values of an
organization. This workshop addresses planning strategies,
internal and external communication, legal issues, and the
role of the human resource manager during the process of change
and services needed for employees.
SPIRITUALITY OF MINISTRY
Awareness and response to the movement and activity of God
in lifes activities and situations is the heart of any
spirituality. This workshop will provide an opportunity to
reflect on and discuss the patterns of Gods activity,
i.e., Gods gifts and challenges, in the activities and
situations of ministerial leadership.
STRATEGIES FOR MINISTRY TRANSITIONS
Moving from a system that assigned congregational members
to positions to one which requires an active ministry search
can be a special challenge to the unprepared. A ministry search
requires creativity, specialized skills in job search techniques
and a formal plan to carry this out successfully. This workshop
examines the steps to a successful ministry search, including
resume preparation, interviewing skills and negotiating for
just compensation. Individual time is given for participants
to discuss their ministry search process.
