Detailed Descriptions
THE INDIVIDUAL AND THE INSTITUTION:
Strengthening Working Relationships in the Church
Based on the NACPA position paper of the same title, this
workshop examines the realistic work expectations of the individual
and of the institutions that employ them. Definitions and
models of what constitutes a healthy workplace, reflections
on the present moment in the history of church workers and
strategies for improving working relationships are discussed.
Opportunities to integrate participants experiences
and time for questions will be provided.
THE CHURCH AS EMPLOYER
Our Catholic teachings call for employment to be more than
a job and that workers be able to achieve their full sense
of dignity and humanity through their contributions in the
workplace. Too often the Church does not model this in its
own employment practices. This workshop examines the roots
of our faith in areas related to workplace justice and issues
specific challenges to church employers for modeling fair
personnel practices and responsible stewardship of human as
well as financial resources.
PASTOR AS PERSONNEL DIRECTOR
This program examines the skills, competencies and spirituality
needed to exercise the many roles and to meet the expectations
of being a pastor in todays church. It includes explicit
and practical information in the areas of performance appraisal,
employee relations, effective discipline and employee termination.
MINISTRY WITH MEMBERS
This workshop is designed for persons in religious congregation
administration and is particularly helpful for people new
to these positions. It deals with the tensions and challenges
of ministry within the congregation - both how to deal with
them and how to reflect on them.
AS LEADERS LEAVE OFFICE
This workshop provides a reflective environment for individuals
and/or teams to probe realistically the leadership experience
and to plan creatively for the next ministry.
HUMAN RESOURCE IMPLICATIONS IN LEADERSHIP TRANSITIONS
The election process for religious congregations is a time
for new leadership, new challenges and new possibilities.
It can be a smooth transfer of administrative responsibilities
or a time of confusion and chaos. Much depends on how much
planning takes place during the process. This workshop examines
the natural steps in a time of transition, the skills and
tasks needed as new members of leadership teams begin their
work together, a workstyle inventory to be completed by all
team members and a careful review of the practical elements
of moving into and out of leadership.
