Ministry Director, SJEC
The St. Joseph Educational Center (SJEC) is seeking an engaging individual to fulfill a full-time Ministry Director position. The SJEC resides at Dowling Catholic High School while focusing its efforts to serve 23 parishes and the broader Catholic community of Des Moines. The primary focus of the Center is to coordinate educational development for individuals and current/future parish employees, to provide adult faith formation programing, and to serve as a unifying element between the parishes, Catholic schools and Catholic families in Des Moines.
The Ministry Director will develop, coordinate and execute adult faith formation programming and educational opportunities for parishes and parents, while coordinating with the schools, the Diocese of Des Moines and lay ministries in the Des Moines region. This position will be responsible for the ongoing formation of catechetical and adult formation leaders. The Ministry Director will work in conjunction with pastors and parish staff in developing programs and offerings that help form these leaders.
The Ministry Director will be a strong leader to link and collaborate best practices between Catholic entities with the expertise to execute shared resources. Serving as part of an overall unified effort to evangelize the Des Moines region Catholic community, the Ministry Director will build foundations for collective results.
Qualified candidates should hold a Master’s Degree in Theology or equivalent. A doctorate degree is preferred. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years of experience in direct ministry at the parish, school or diocesan level. Previously demonstrated pastoral skills and the ability to teach and lead others to master these skills are essential.

The successful candidate will possess the ability to cultivate relationships with a wide range of individuals, the ability to facilitate meetings effectively and strong organizational skills. Working knowledge of adult catechesis with special emphasis on experiential learning and how to communicate Catholic teachings to adults is required.
