Director, Office for Safe Environment

The full-time exempt position is responsible maintaining a safe environment program for the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois following the United States Conference of Catholic Bishop’s, (USCCB), Charter for the Protection of Children and Young Peopleand Essential Normsand for keeping abreast of emerging safe environment issues to ensure the safety of children and vulnerable adults.  This includes serving as primary safe environment contact for the USCCB Office of Child and Youth Protection, coordinating the training/educational and background check aspects of the policies and procedures of the diocese, preparing for regular compliance audits and working with other diocesan and parish personnel to ensure appropriate programs, policies, education and training are in place. Skills include highly developed interpersonal skills, excellent written, verbal, public speaking, planning, and organization skills, ability to train small and large groups, maintain confidentiality, and be proficient in Microsoft Office.  Position requires a practicing member of the Catholic Church in good standing, a solid understanding the Catholic Church and its ministerial obligations, a minimum of 5 years experience in education, social work, administration in a pastoral setting or other related field preferably in the Catholic Church or Catholic Charities  Undergraduate or graduate degree in education administration, social work, or related field desired.  Position requires a valid driver's license and the ability to travel.  Please send resume, references, and cover letter including salary requirement to HR@dio.org, or mail to:  Office for Human Resources, 1615 W.
